What Trainees Say
My dad is an amazing ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher - so I promised myself growing up that I would NOT be an English teacher! But after I finished my degree, he encouraged me to give the ITA TESOL course a go because of the skills and experience I would learn if I wanted to travel and work. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started the course but it didn't take long until I realised how exciting and rewarding teaching English is!
All the activities are so fun it didn't even feel like learning! But then when we started preparing and sharing our own lessons, I realised how much I had learned from the example of the TESOL teachers and the activities we had done.
I can't describe how rewarding it is as a native English speaker to be able to encourage and empower, teach and guide, the students in improving their English - especially when realisation brightens up their faces as they finally understand a complicated grammar point or the excitement when they learn and can use new vocabulary in conversation. I am grateful to my dad for urging me to do this course and for ITA for making every second ABSOLUTELY worth it! I never even thought of combining travelling with teaching English but now I see a world full of possibilities - and am planning a trip to Mongolia in September to put my new found skills and passion into practice!
